As reported by Censor.NET citing the NSDC press service, Turchynov said that there were no unmanned aerial vehicles at the fore front when Ukraine started countering the Russian aggression back in 2014.
"Now we have a large number of tactical level unmanned aerial systems manufactured by Ukrainian enterprises," he said adding that combat UAV's were also successfully tested.
"There is even a competition among the Ukrainian manufacturers of tactical UAVs," he said.
Turchynov also said that the National Security and Defense Council tasked the Ukrainian defense industry to increase capabilities of unmanned aerial vehicles.
"The semi strategic Horlytsia UAV produced by Antonov SE successfully completed its first flight testing today. This drone is capable of carrying out a 7-hour long uninterrupted flight at an altitude of up to 5,000 meters while its flight range exceeds 1,000 kilometers," Turchynov stressed.
He also pointed out that the UAV's features allow it to perform various missions including reconnaissance and fire coordination as well as inflict damage to the enemy with air-to-surface missiles.
Turchynov is conviced that it is these UAVs that the future lies with. "Once we complete development of the tactical and semi strategic drones, our next step will be creation of a strategic UAV."
