SBU seizes 19 freight cars from occupied territory with scrap metal worth 6M hryvnia. VIDEO

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has frustrated an attempt to launch a channel to finance terrorism in the country's east.

Censor.NET reports referring the SBU press center.

"It was established that the leaders of the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic" were planning illegal export of scrap metal from the puppet republic to finance its paramilitary groups. Using firms that have permits to transport goods across the demarcation line, they took the stuff to the government-controlled territory for further sale.

"SBU operatives have seized 19 cars with scrap metal at the Kostiantynivka railway crossing point.

"Based on available information, it was the first attempt of terrorists to smuggle scrap metal. The cars with scrap metal worth nearly 6 million hryvnia ($213,036) have been seized. The SBU has opened a criminal proceeding under article 258-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigation is underway," the statement notes.
