 In memory of troopers killed in Il-76 downed by Russian militants in Luhansk airport. VIDEO

Forty paratroopers of the 25th Separate Paratrooper Brigade died during their Il-76 landing in the Luhansk airport two and a half years ago. The aircraft was downed by Russian terrorists on June 14, 2016. The crew of the Il-76 died in the crash as well.

As reported by Censor.NET, the investigation into the tragedy is coming to an end. A judgment should be announced in a month.

June 14, 2014, at around 1 a.m., pro-Russian terrorists hit Il-76 military aircraft of the Air Force of Ukraine's Armed Forces while it was landing in the Luhansk airport. The investigation found that the plane was hit by Russian terrorists from a man-portable air-defense system. Major General Viktor Nazarov was the chief of staff of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) at the moment. Nazarov is being tried for negligence in combat causing grave consequences (paragraph 3 article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the conclusion of a commission that carried out a complex military-tactical forensic examination, Chief of Anti-Terrorist Operation Staff Major General Viktor Nazarov was obliged to take measures to suppress the air defense of terrorists and ensure the safety of Il-76 flight over Luhansk controlled by the militants June 14, 2014.

132 witnesses have been interviewed, 112 expertise cases conducted within the investigation. As of today, all the bodies of the killed have been identified.
