 European carrier Vega powered by Ukrainian engine successfully launched into orbit. VIDEO

On Dec. 5, 2016, at 3:51 p.m. Kyiv time, a Vega rocket leaped off the pad at Guyana Space Center’s Vega Launch Complex, carrying the Göktürk 1 Earth observation satellite into orbit.

The Vega carrier rocket was designed by the European Space Agency (ESA) together with the Italian Space Agency (ASI). The carrier's forth stage RD-843 engine was designed by the Yanhel Pivdenne State Design Office and manufactured by the Makarov Production Association Pivdennyi Machine-Building Plant," the message reads.

This was the eighth Vega launch from the Guiana Space Center since its first liftoff in 2012.
