As reported by Censor.NET citing the presidential press service, National Police Acting Head Vadym Troian said it during an extraordinary meeting in connection with the death of five police officers in Kniazhychi village on the night of Dec. 4, chaired by President Petro Poroshenko and attended by representatives of law enforcement agencies.
"The special operation was carried out nationwide. The police tracked down a criminal group that operated in the territory of Kyiv and the Kyiv region. He [Troian - ed.] said the group consisted of several people, including persons previously convicted for robbery, who worked or still work for law enforcement authorities," the statement reads.
Troian reported the criminals had been seized, provided the details of the operation, demonstrated the documented evidence of group's criminal activity as well as the chronology of events of the tragic night.
He added three of them were residents of Kyiv and the Kyiv region, the forth one hailed from Lviv. In their cars, the police found a lot of weapons, including two Glock pistols and a Makarov pistol with a silencer, ammunition, including grenades, special tactical gear (radios, jammers) and other things evidencing of their illegal activity.
The searches are underway. Large quantities of weapons, ammunition and explosives have been seized. Criminal proceedings have been instituted under article 187 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The attackers are reasonably suspected of committing a series of robberies in the apartments and offices in Kyiv and the region.
