 Local residents clash with developer in Sviatoshyn district of Kyiv. VIDEO

The showdown between local residents and a development company continued for second day in a row in the Sviatoshyn district of Kyiv. The developer intends to construct a high-rise building on a parking area.

As reported by Censor.NET citing LB.ua, the people are trying to take away their cars that have been blocked on the seized parking space.

Tuesday evening, a fire and explosions were recorded on the seized area with the cars of local residents. Firefighters who arrived at the call attempted to take down the gates but were prohibited to do so by a police officer.

They report police started to detain local residents who opposed the people of the developer. None of the latter have been apprehended over the two days.

Kyiv Police communications department states that the conflict in the Sviatoshyn district of Kyiv arose Tuesday night between a 100-150 strong group of people dressed in camo and representatives of the development company. The sides were using stones, crackers and stone-puff charges, and burned tires.

According to Facebook page of Oksana Blyshchyk, chief communications office of Kyiv's Police, the law enforcers are present at the site between the conflicting parties, attempting to prevent the escalation of the conflict and grave consequences. Fire and ambulance brigades are also on duty there. Information about casualties is being specified, Blyshchyk reported.

Police and the National Guard soldiers protect the fence around the construction site from the people who are trying to take away their cars from the seized parking area. Local residents and journalists are being pushed away from the fence.

Hromadske cited Kyiv's Police Chief Zozulia as saying that police is not taking any side of the conflict and is simply protecting the order.
