President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed three decrees related to the development of the country's National Police on Dec. 10, 2015.
A new holiday, National Police Day, was established by one of the decrees. It will be marked annually on Aug. 4 - the day when the law on national police came into force.
Additionally, the same decree abolished Militia Day, which was officially celebrated on Dec. 20.
On his Facebook page, the president congratulated police officers on their professional holiday and posted a festive video.
As previously reported, 30,000 former Ukrainian militia officers have successfully passed the reassessment procedure, while 4,000 failed.
