"We respect the decision of the Dutch people. The results of the referendum reflect a wish by the Netherlands' citizens to bring about changes in the European Union itself and to make it more open to its people. It is the task of Lithuania, as well as Europe as a whole, to continue to actively support Ukraine's European choice," the politician stated in her press release issued on Thursday.
Grybauskaite also released a video message to the Ukrainian people in connection with the disappointing results of the Dutch referendum. The Lithuanian president addressed the Ukrainians in English and Ukrainian languages.
"Today we heard about the results of the Netherlands' referendum. We all wished they were different. However, now is not the time to lose hope or question Ukraine's European choice. No one can stand in the way of Ukraine's path to Europe because Ukraine has always been in Europe and will always stay in Europe. Provisions of the agreement on free trade are de facto already in force, the integration process may take more time than we thought, but the end result is clear - it was decided in Maidan. There is no doubt that the future of Ukraine is in the hands of every Ukrainian. Today we have to get more united, more resolute and ready for reforms, integration and a new European Ukraine. Lithuania and entire Europe will be on your side. Glory to Ukraine!" she said.
In #Maidan #Ukraine made European choice. Nobody can stop You. #SlavaUkraini!
