"The SBU together with the prosecutor's office and police officers conducted a successful operation to eliminate two criminal groups bringing weapons and ammunition from the ATO area to the Chernihiv region. According to preliminary information, the arms could be used for sabotage and destabilization of situation in the regional center. Also, the offenders planned to create an extensive network for selling firearms and ammunition in the region and beyond it. The officers recorded attempts to illegally trade a Degtyaryov machine gun (7.62-mm), two RPG grenade launchers, RGD-5 and F-1 grenades, an AK-47 machine gun (7.62-mm) with ammunition, a Makarov pistol and five TNT blocks (200 g each). All arms were seized by law enforcers," the report reads.
"July 22, members of a criminal group (mostly residents of Chernihiv region) were detained red-handed while attempting to sell another batch of weapons. In total, 18 pieces of firearms, eight RPG-22 grenade launchers, 13 hand grenades, a large number of ammunition, 10 anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, more than a kilogram of explosives, edged weapons were seized as a result of operative actions and searches in the premises and offices of the criminals. About $8,000 were seized as well. 10 members of criminal organizations have been detained so far," the SBU added.
Searches and other investigative actions within criminal proceedings opened under Part 1, Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are underway.
