The area that was used by the separatists is considered a buffer zone.
However, a nice and sharply defined line demarcates the warring parties only on a map. In reality, this base has always been in the Ukrainian troops' rear. It was the very place where the Ukrainian checkpoints and roads were watched from. A powerful antenna still overtops a house. The militants were not captured. They managed to drift back to Horlivka through wooded areas. The base was arranged among abandoned garages in the territory of former agricultural firm. According to the servicemen's estimates, it was designed for 50 people.
There were sleeping pads, beds, empty ammunition boxes as well as sniper's notebook with marked sectors for attacks found in the barracks. The medicines, which were also found there, were all made in Russia. In addition, the stripes of the 'Russian Orthodox Army', St. George's ribbons (separatists' symbol), and three handfuls of stars for shoulder straps were discovered at the base. "That's the way how yesterday's drunkard turns into today's officer," the Ukrainian military ironically commented on the discovery. The soldiers hope that the number of attacks on their positions will decrease now, after the elimination of the base.
