Kyiv city council deputy Ihor Lutsenko wrote on his Facebook page: "Let me remind you, there are judicial proceedings going regarding the cinema. This is city property, and those interested want to kick the current tenants out, those who made this place extremely popular. This started when Yanukovych was a president. There is a draft registered in city council about prolongation of the lease. It was supposed to be decided in favor of those currently leasing, but now there's a fire."

Facebook user Hanna Hrabarska wrote: "It caught fire in front of our very eyes!!! Firemen said this is arson in several spots simultaneously."

LB.ua media wrote: "The fire started during a session of the "Molodist" festival. Unknown persons set one of the moviehalls on fire. According to the organizers of the festival, the facade is on fire as well. It's possible that the arson was implemented in several places."

The fire started during screening of the film "Summer Nights" participating in a program of films on LGBT. No one was injured. Six fire engines operated on site.

As of the witnesses said, "We were 20 minutes into the film when shouts from the back seats started, "Smoke!" We didn't immediately realize what had happened. We were able to quickly evacuate people from this screening and other moviehalls of Zhovten. The first fire engine arrived very quickly, and the rest came when the smoke started to belch from the windows."
