Employees of the tax police and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) seized smuggled cigarettes (worth a total of six millions hryvnia) in the Odesa region.
The border guards apprehended several Volyn region residents who were trying to smuggle cigarettes across the Ukrainian-Polish border.
The court granted the petition of the Darnytsa garrison military prosecutors to impose pretrial confinement against Kyiv airport customs post head with the right to post 116,000 hryvnia (about $4,640) in bail. The official was nabbed while receiving $3,000 in bribe for excisable goods movement through the state border without customs clearance.
The Verkhovna Rada deputies have supported increase of the excise tax on spirits by 50 percent, beer – by 100 percent, alcoholic beverages - by 300 percent and tobacco products - by 40 percent.
The Security Service of Ukraine in conjunction with the border guards and the State Fiscal Service has found a warehouse with infringing merchandise.
In the Luhansk region, the combined mobile team consisting of officers from the Phantom tax police detachment, the SBU, and the Military Prosecutor's Office arrested a batch of food and cigarettes which was destined for the militants in the occupied territory.
The State Fiscal Service, together with the SBU prevented an attempt to smuggle counterfeit cigarettes into the EU.
