The enemy has abandoned the bodies of mercenaries on the battlefield and is disguising its losses.

The two-day fighting at Svitlodarsk, near the Svitlodarsk reservoir and Kalynivka village, has become one of the most violent frontline clashes in 2016. Under the Minsk agreements, this area should be controlled by the Ukrainian army. However, Russian command, in violation of the accords, continues occupying this territory and constantly attacks and shells our positions. This is one of the hottest spots of the Russian-Ukrainian frontline. On June 29, a well-known battle took place at the 220 height nearby that left three Ukrainian soldiers killed.

Sources of Censor.NET in the staff of one of the battalions that participated in the battles say the escalation was provoked by an attempt of an enemy’s recon group to outflank a frontline position of the 1st battalion of the 54th motorized infantry brigade. The battle started at around 6 a.m. Dec. 18.

In its turn, 20 men strong attack group of the 1st battalion, commanded by company commander, Lieutenant Mykola Yarovyi, advanced in order to cut off the line of retreat for the Russian mercenaries.

The enemy lost in this skirmish and ran away. The threat to the battalion’s flank was eliminated. Persecuting the enemy, our fighters took frontline positions of the Russian unit that had been seized in the ‘grey area’ in violation of the Minsk deal.

The Russian heavy artillery launched massive shelling of Ukrainian troops in the area as well as villages in the near rear. Luhanske and Myronivske came under burst of missiles.

Gradually, the Ukrainian artillery was also put forward to cover our troops. However, it could not suppress the Russian artillery. The enemy continued intensive shelling for almost two days. It acted in an organized manner with significant troops. Despite having hit numerous fire positions of the Russian troops, Ukrainian military was not able to completely silence the enemy artillery.

All attempts of infantry units and armored vehicles of the 7th brigade of the Russian occupation forces to re-seize the abandoned positions in the ‘grey area’ were repulsed.

At the moment, the combat intensity near Svitlodarsk has significantly decreased. Starting from 10 p.m. (Kyiv time) Dec. 19, the artillery on both sides stopped fire exchange. This was said by Censor.NET’s source in the staff of one of the battalions that participate in the combat. However, small arms skirmish lasted all night long.

Since morning of Dec. 20, violent skirmish with the use of infantry weapons has continued. The enemy is attempting assaults at our position. At the moment, the battle continues. Our units have been reinforced. The situation is described as tense but stable.

The units of the enemy abandoned four bodies of Russian mercenaries. Another militant with a grave wound has been abandoned by his comrades without aid and is now being treated by Ukrainian doctors. Russian units that came under retaliation fire of our weapon and mortars also incurred significant losses.

Unfortunately, our units incurred serious losses on Dec. 18 and 19.

Seven Ukrainian soldiers died game, one fighter from the 54th brigade went missing.

Three military of the 25th Kyivska Rus battalion and four fighters of the 1st battalion of the 54th motorized infantry brigade were killed.

Information of 19 killed soldiers that was spread by several Ukrainian volunteers, has been disproved by both battalions’ staffs.

Civil and military cooperation department of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed six Ukrainian fighters killed in combat. The seventh soldier died of wounds while being evacuated.

25 our military received injuries. A fighter of the 1st battalion of the 54th brigade was gravely injured and evacuated into a mobile hospital. Most of the rest of the injuries are light wounds and concussions. Some soldiers refused hospital treatment.

One infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) of the 54th brigade was damaged in the battle. The damage was repaired in the field. Information spread by the enemy of significant armored equipment losses of the Ukrainian Army is not true.

The names of those killed will be made public after notification of their relatives. Censor.NET controls this information as usual. We will publish full data on combat losses, personal details included, just as we did in previous months. Everyone who is concerned with this data can check it.

Here is information on our combat losses in November (in Ukrainian).

The reasons for the significant personnel losses should be studied and analyzed in detail, and right conclusions should be made.

The names of all killed Ukrainian Warriors will be established and published after their relatives are notified.

In loving memory of the killed defenders of Ukraine.
