The Security Service of Ukraine has prevented an illegal intent to conduct a provocation during mass protest events scheduled for Oct. 17 in Kyiv.

"The main investigation department of the Security Service of Ukraine in the framework of criminal proceedings on the basis of preparations for commission of a crime under part 1 of Article 109 and part 3 of Article 110-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is verifying information on the intentions of leaders of certain radical structures to carry out provocations with possible power scenario during the mass public event on Oct. 17, 2017 in Kyiv, and has documented the search of small arms and weapons for this purpose," the SBU said.

In order to prevent a possible crime, the Security Service officers blocked attempts to acquire two AK-47 and three grenade launchers by two former activists of the Revolutionary Right Forces organization.

During nine raids conducted by the Security Service, more than 200 thousand hryvnia ($7,550) were seized together with communication means, computer equipment and other things that were used to prepare acts of provocative and violent nature, the SBU reported. Investigative activities continue.
