"Today is the liberation day of Sloviansk, one of the first big Ukrainian victories. Three years ago today was the last fighting at the 5th checkpoint, when a group of fighters of the 25th brigade commanded by Andrii Tkachuk and Berkut fighters from Zaporizhia commanded by Oleksandr Panchenko eliminated an armored group of mercenaries of Girkin. The enemy left Sloviansk. Three years ago, paratrooper Roman Mendel was killed in that fighting. He was the last Ukrainian military killed in fighting for Sloviansk," Butusov wrote.

"The first to enter downtown Sloviansk were volunteer scouts of Kulchytskyi Battalion of the National Guard Ivan Zhuravliov and Vasyl Kovalchuk. Zhuravliov and Kovalchuk reported that the militants retreated, and led the main column in the city on the chief armored vehicle. And then, together with fearless press officer of MoD, Vlad Voloshyn, the three of them climbed the roof of Sloviansk city council, former HQ of the militants, and put a Ukrainian flag there that has become a symbol of the first Ukrainian victory (left to right - Voloshyn, Kovalchuk, Zhuravliov).

"Glory to Ukraine!" Butusov wrote.
