The suspects were detained while receiving $100,000 as an advance payment for the crime.

This was announced by Ukraine's Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"The prosecutor's office of the Kyiv region together with employees of the Security Service of Ukraine apprehended a group of people including a chief of a district police department who, on behalf of a Russian citizen, for a fee of $17 million attempted to organize abduction and transfer to Russia of a former citizen of Russia, who moved to Ukraine over persecution by the Russian authorities and has been engaged in a manufacturing business here.

"While receiving an advance payment of $100,000, which was given to the criminals to carry out their criminal actions, the latter were detained on suspicion of committing criminal offenses stipulating for up to 10 years of imprisonment," Lutsenko said.

Later, Lutsenko added that the police officers are from Obukhiv city police, the Kyiv region.
