Yesterday, April 24, unidentified trucks unloaded household garbage from Lviv in the area of the Chornobyl NPP near the villages of Bober and Korolivka. The police are taking measures to identify those involved in the illegal dumping.
As noted, the head of a local administration addressed the Ivankiv police department to report a pile of dumped trash near the villages of Bober and Korolivka.
The police arrived at the scene. The following check revealed nine heaps of garbage dumped around the Chornobyl NPP. Documents or their fragments, confirming the fact the garbage originated from Lviv, were discovered in each of the heaps.
A criminal proceeding has been instituited under article 239 (land pollution/damage) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The punishment involves a fine of up to two hundred non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens or forfeiture of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
As reported, Lviv has been facing a serious garbage problem after the local dump field in Hrybovychi village was closed following the death of several people in a waste slide and massive fire in May 2016.
