"The Viasna leader Ales Beliatski was probably apprehended a few minutes before the riot police broke into the premises of the human rights center. He left the building and disappeared, there is no connection with him at the moment," Reutskyi wrote.
According to the activist, among the apprehended people there are foreign citizens, journalists, observers, the head of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Oleg Gulak, the representative of the Frontline Defenders international organization Maria Shishchenkova, the head of the Documentation Center Raisa Mikhailovskaya, the co-coordinator of the CrimeaSOS Ukrainian public organization Yevheniia Andreiuk.
All detainees are taken to the Pervomaiskoye police department.
The riot police also apprehend people near the Academy of Sciences in the downtown Minsk, local media report.
People are apprehended at the spot where a Freedom Day rally was planned to be held. Mass apprehensions are reported at Kuzma Chorniy Street, ТUТ.by reports.
Journalists of Komsomolskaya Pravda Irina Kozlik, Daria Puteiko and Anna Ribchinskaya, who had been broadcasting events at the Freedom Day, were apprehended among others. The riot police refuse to check their documents.

In Minsk, "Academy of Sciences", "Yakub Kolas Square" and "Park Chelyuskintsev" metro stations are closed, trains run through the stations without stopping. Most of the broadcasts by the Belarusian media were interrupted for unknown reasons.
The riot police push people aside from the Academy of Sciences and apprehends everyone who delays. People gather at Yakub Kolas Square, where there is already a column of about 1,000 people with flags. People chant "Long Live Belarus" and "Shame!"
The Freedom Day is celebrated on March 25. It is the anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Belarusian People's Republic in 1918.
