The Kyiv prosecutor's office has proved the guilt of a citizen of Brazil who fought in the east of Ukraine alongside militants of the self-styled "Donetsk People's Republic" and recruited mercenaries for terrorists.

Censor.NET reports citing the prosecutor's office press service.

The foreigner has been convicted under part 1, article 258-3 (establishment of a terrorist organization) and part 2, article 260 (establishment of extra-legal armed groups) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced to 13 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Ukrainian law enforcers detained the foreign recruiter in Boryspil Airport in October last year immediately after his arrival in Ukraine from Brazil.

The investigation has found that from September 2014 to May 2015, the citizen of Brazil was a soldier of the 1st Infantry Battalion "Viking" of the 1st "DPR" Brigade.

The terrorist served as company commander, instructor and scout. He took part in fighting in the area of Verhulivka, Pervomaiske, Horlivka, Starobesheve, Debaltseve, Donetsk airport. He recruited foreigners, mostly Brazilians, to "DPR's" paramilitary units, repeatedly took part in reconnaissance raids and adjusted artillery fire on Ukrainian positions.
