President of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Volodymyr Viatrovych said on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.
"The Ukrainian and Polish memorials to the victims of the NKVD in Bykivnia outside Kyiv have been defiled. The vandals, who most likely did this at night, left traces similar to those found in Huta Peniatska," he wrote.
Later Viatrovych added that "the desecration of the monuments in Bykivnia is a provocation intended to make others think it's an act of revenge by Poles for Huta Peniatska."
"But the vandalism committed against the Polish part of the memorial shows that its real perpetrator is a third party interested in aggravation of the relations between Ukrainians and Poles. This case should encourage Ukrainians and Poles to unite forces not only to protect their places of interest but also to forestall sowing any discord between our nations," Viatorovych stressed.
