New details emerged in the investigation of the shooting in Kniazhychi. This was announced by Interior Ministry's Communication department head Artem Shevchenko, Censor.NET reports citing his Facebook.
It was found that a former officer of the Main Department for Organized Crime Control (HUBOZ) Ihor Kasian was involved in the crime gang that was supposed to be apprehended in Kniazhychi.
"According to investigators, Ihor Kasian is a significant figure in the group of suspects, so-called "Kniazhychi robbers''. Now he is in custody for a period of two months without bail law. In early 2000s the case of "Colonel Honcharov police werewolves" caused a stir. Kasian was in a group of HUBOZ officers guarding key witness Yurii Nesterov, thanks to which the whole well-covered police-gangster group specialized in kidnapping and killing was exposed," Shevchenko wrote.
Shevchenko also said that Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko is familiar with this case.
"Now investigators that suspect this group of the establishment of the newest criminal conglomerate of current and former police officers and criminals will also prove the guilt of each member, some of which are already cooperating with the investigation," Shevchenko said.
Five police officers were shot dead in a fire exchange between members of different police squads in the village of Kniazhychi Dec. 4. Two of them were servicemen of the security police, two were police investigators, and one was a KORD special purpose unit serviceman.
Interior Ministry Adviser Anton Herashchenko wrote it was an accidental skirmish caused by a mistake that led to the deaths of five servicemen.
The tragedy in the village of Kniazhychi occurred during a special operation on apprehension of a dangerous group of criminals who committed robberies in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The three violators were later apprehended by police.
The prosecutor's office of the Kyiv region is conducting pre-trial investigation into the incident.
Acting National Police Head Vadym Troian claims the criminal gang acted under the cover of law enforcers.
