This was announced by Censor.NET's Chief Editor Yurii Butusov in his blog.
"A top Russian mercenary, Colonel Ruslan Galitsky, has been killed in Syria. He was appointed commander of the 5th Guards Tank Brigade from Ulan-Ude, and participated in Russian aggression against Ukraine. It's the second senior officer of the brigade who fought in Ukraine and ended in Syria," he wrote.
"The 5th tank [brigade] is the very "Buryat tankmen" who participated actively in the aggression against Ukraine and acted as "rebels" during the Debaltseve operation (evidence of participation of the 5th Buryat tank brigade of the Russian army in Debaltseve assault, Kobzon visiting wounded tankmen of the 5th brigade in Donetsk). The 5th tank brigade is a professional military unit of level readiness, most units of which are manned with contract soldiers," the journalist wrote.
Butusov stresses that Galitsky's professional background, including active participation in the aggression against Ukraine, made him a fitting candidate for being sent to Syria, as a commander with experience of localized war.
Butusov also wrote that Galitsky was commanding an assault of Syrian city of Aleppo. On Dec. 5, Syrian militants sprayed Russian camp with missiles, and Galitsky was wounded in his head. As long as dates coincide, he died in the same shelling as two Russian female medical workers, the journalist noted.
"It's a second officer of the 5th tank brigade killed in Syria. On June 19, 2016 Colonel Vladimir Bekish, commander of a brigade reconnaissance, was killed in Syria. Russian media reported that Bekish participated in the aggression against Ukraine and awarded a medal 'For Valor'," Butusov wrote.
