988 villages in 13 regions cut off power due to rough weather, - State Emergency Service. PHOTOS

Rough weather (snowfalls and strong wind) caused power lines protection systems turn on, leaving 988 villages and towns in 13 regions of Ukraine without electricity on Nov. 12-14, 2016.

This was announced by the State Emergency Service in a report as at 7 a.m. Nov. 14, Censor.NET reports.

209 repair units are involved in restoration works in these villages, the agency reported.

The most massive snowfalls - up to 50 cm - have been recorded in the Rivne, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi, and Zhytomyr regions.

Snow and rain is observed in the Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Cherkasy region. It is raining in the Kirovohrad, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions. The weather is dry in the rest of the country.


In order to secure safety on the roads, trucks and big vehicles are banned from traveling in some areas of the Lviv, Zhytomyr, Ternopil, and Khmelnytskyi regions.

More than 490 rescue operations for road cleaning have been conducted by the State Emergency Service units across the country.


4,864 servicemen and 2,251 units of vehicles have been involved in the rescue operations.

It will be snowing in the northern regions of the country for the next three hours, the agency forecasts.
