As reported by Censor.NET citing DTP.KIEV.UA, the impact killed two policemen on the spot. One more police officer was brought to the intensive care unit. The investigative team and the police patrol arrived at the scene.
Later, the Communications Department of the Kyiv region police disclosed the details of the accident. A 42-year-old Mercedes driver collided with the police car in Bila Tserkva Oct. 2 as the police officers were heading to a scene. Two policemen were killed on the spot and one law enforcer was taken to a hospital in serious condition as a result of the accident.
"Mercedes with Polish registration plates operated by an unknown individual rammed Daewoo Sens with three police officers in Bila Tserkva at 10:40 p.m. Oct. 2. The accident took place at the intersection of Kniazia Volodymyra Avenue and Hryzodubova Street. The driver of Mercedes fled the scene. Two passengers of the police car - 22-year-old police lieutenant Andrii Yatsura and 24-year-old police senior sergeant Mykhailo Korniienko - died at the scene. Another police officer - 23-year-old senior lieutenant Rodion Sovizhenko, who was behind the police car's wheel - was taken to the intensive care unit of a local hospital," the statement reads.
The law enforcement officers established the person who caused the road traffic accident and detained him under article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code. He turned out to be a 42-year-old Ukrainian citizen with signs of intoxication. The suspect underwent alcohol test which showed 1.8 percent of alcohol in his blood.
The criminal proceedings were initiated into the accident under part 3 of article 286 (violation of traffic safety) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation is underway.
