Spokesperson for the president of Ukraine Sviatoslav Tseholko wrote on Twitter, Censor.NET informs.
"The SBU chairman has just reported to the president on the detention of acting rector of the National Aviation University while receiving 170,000 euros in bribe," Tseholko wrote.
He added that the operation was conducted in conjunction with the NABU (the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine) and SAP (Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office).
The SBU press service later clarified that the official extorted 170,000 euros from a professor for his appointment to a post in the university. The negotiations were held through a lawyer who acted as an intermediary.
The SBU officers together with the members of NABU and SAP apprehended the acting rector and a lawyer in the premises of the university after they received a part of the bribe in the amount of 100,000 euros.
The law enforcers initiated criminal proceedings under part 3 of the article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The investigative activities are underway.
