This was announced by Luhansk region deputy governor Yurii Klymenko, Censor.NET reports citing the Luhansk regional state administration press service.
"According to preliminary information, an up-to-date Russian-made bullet was shot from a heavy caliber sniper rifle that entered into service with the Russian army in 2013," he said.
A heavy caliber sniper rifle, or the 12.7 mm sniper 6C8 system, was designed in the Russian city of Kovrov in 2004. The gun's firing range reaches 1,500 meters. Similar rifles were commonly used by pro-Russian militants in the vicinity of Donetsk, but this is the first case registered in the Luhansk region.
As noted, pro-Russian militants committed multiple attacks in the Popasna district of the Luhansk region in the late hours of Aug. 25. They fired upon Troitske, Novozvanivka, Novooleksandrivka and Zolote town.
Russian terrorist forces used 82 mm mortars, IFVs and machine guns to hit the outskirts of Stanytsia Luhanska. After midnight, the enemy used self-propelled artillery to shell Ukrainian positions near Krymske, Novoaidar district, two times.
No military and civilian casualties were reported.
