"The United States provides Ukraine with the biggest support and it won't be a mistake to say this is a huge individual merit of yours. I'm indefinitely grateful for your clear position with regard to Ukraine as well as the support we have received in these difficult for our country and army years," Poltorak thanked Pyatt.
The minister also dwelt on the situation in the east of Ukraine and the numerous violations of the Minsk agreements by terrorist groups.
"We remain committed to the Minsk agreements in spite of the numerous violations by terrorists - Ukrainian troops have never been the first to open fire. In this case, we can only talk about our fire in response when there is a real danger to personnel," the defense minister stressed.
The sides have also discussed the work of multinational combined group on the preparation of the Ukrainian military.
Lt. Gen. Frederick "Ben" Hodges thanked the minister for his personal control of the preparations for the exercise that will soon start at the Yavoriv training ground.
According to Hodges, the preparations are at their final stage. Most of the military have already arrived at the training ground, he noted, stressing the proper choice of personnel.
He offered reassurance that the United States will do everything to further support the Ukrainian army.
Finally, Ambassador Pyatt emphasized that Ukraine will not stay on its own in fighting its enemy: the United States will pursue the policy of intolerance towards Russia's aggression and support for Ukraine at different levels.
He expressed regret about the best soldiers being killed in eastern Ukraine each day and thanked the minister for his commitment to the army reform.
