Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.
"As the Minister of Internal Affairs, I follow not the religious observance in the current situation. I am governed by the priority of public security.
"That is why, having received the relevant information today, I instructed to intervene in the plan of the religious procession movement through Kyiv announced by its organizers in order to prevent possible terrorist attacks and provocations against the procession of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). Dummy explosive devices and real grenades found along the procession's planned route in the morning made it clear that the threats and provocations were true. The Interior Ministry has blocked the procession's way through Kyiv by efforts of the National Police and National Guard. The safety of citizens is more important than the religious observance," the minister wrote.
As previously reported, the so-called "religious procession for peace" started in the east of the country from the Sviatohirsk Monastery on July 3, and in the west of the country from the Pochaiv Monastery on July 9. The participants in both processions will meet in Kyiv at St. Volodymyr Hill and walk together to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, where a ceremonial service will be held on July 27, the eve of the celebration of Christianization of Rus-Ukraine.
