 Second anniversary of tragedy near Zelenopillia: Ukrainians paid tribute to soldiers killed by Russian artillery strike. PHOTOS

On July 11, Ukrainians mark two years of the tragic events near Zelenopillia (the Luhansk region), when detachments of the 24th and 79th Brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces came under missile strike committed from the territory of the Russian Federation.

As reported by Censor.NET, 39 soldiers from the 24th and 79th Brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and State Border Guard Service were killed by the strike.

Citizens of Mykolaiv and Zaporizhia paid tribute to the memory of the perished Ukrainian military on the anniversary of the carnage near Zelenopillia on Monday, July 11. About 100 people, including former servicemen, representatives of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, and citizens came to honor the memory of the soldiers in Mykolaiv. The rally participants brought flowers, portraits of the killed, and candles, Prestupnosti.NET online news outlet reports.

The townsfolk laid flowers at the monument to the perished commandoes erected near the checkpoint guarded by the 79th Brigade, observed a moment of silence, and sang the national anthem of Ukraine to honor the memory of victims. The 79th Airmobile Brigade from Mykolaiv lost 10 soldiers in the battle near Zelenopillia in the Luhansk region July 11, 2014. Another 41 servicemen were wounded.

The rally to venerate memory of the servicemen killed in the undeclared war in the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions was held in Zaporizhia outside the Regional State Administration building. The rally participants were holding portraits of those killed during the shelling and the in eastern Ukraine. Many people lighted oil lamps as a symbol of remembrance for the military killed in the anti-terrorist operation zone, Timenews reports.
