One of the protest's coordinators, Serhii Hutsaliuk, informed 048 that protesters were beaten up and property was destroyed, Censor.NET reports.
Some of the attackers were apprehended by police and activists.
The protest against Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov started a week ago near the city hall. Protesters intended a timeless event, demanding the dismissal of the mayor.
According to one of the activists, Mykhailo Holubov, the attack took place at 4 a.m. in the night of Tuesday. About 30 "titushkas" (paid protesters) arrived at the scene. They beat up many of the present protesters and destroyed the camp, where some people were sleeping at the moment.
Police arrived 15 minutes after the attack, Holubov said, and managed to detain one or two of the attackers.
According to Hromadske.Odesa, five attackers were detained by police and are now being interrogated.
The KamAZ truck on the photo belongs to city communal enterprise Miskzelentrest. It was brought to the scene to take away the destroyed belongings of protesters. Activist Serhii Hutsaliuk says that this truck is an evidence of participation of the city authorities in the beating of the people.
According to him, more Odesa residents are now arriving to the city square Dumska.
After the attack, Odesa Maidan activists have blocked central and back doors of the Odesa city hall. This is evidenced by images posted on the protesters' Facebook, Odesskaia zhyzn reports.
Dumska Square is now guarded by police officers.
