"The situation around Ukraine is not simple, and the world has no doubt about the presence of Russian troops in the east of our country. At this time, an international support is crucial to us. I'd like to thank the Government of Canada, Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine Mr. Roman Vashchuk, Canadian defense agency and public for their understanding and support to Ukraine from the early days of the military aggression," Stepan Poltorak said.
The Ukrainian Defense Minister has informed his Canadian counterpart about current situation in the east of Ukraine and the reforms undergoing in the defense agency.
"I am grateful for the detailed narrative of the events taking place in Ukraine. I am particularly pleased to hear about reforming of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry. I am sure that these reforms will make the Armed Forces of Ukraine stronger and even more professional," Minister of National Defence of Canada Mr. Harjit Singh Sajjan said.
At the Yavoriv training ground, the heads of defense ministries discussed the implementation of existing programs of military cooperation between Ukraine and Canada.
Canadian instructors demonstrated the exercises on small arms handling and rendering of first aid in combat.
Minister of National Defence of Canada said he is satisfied with the flow of cooperation between the Canadian and Ukrainian military instructors.
Mr. Harjit Singh Sajjan stressed the significance of experience exchange between the whole units of the two countries.
"This training is a mutual process, Canadian instructors teach Ukrainian soldiers, meanwhile being taught as well. Ukrainian militaries have a unique experience of modern warfare, sharing it generously with Canadian army," Canadian Defence Minister said.
"This trip enhanced my understanding of the changes underway in your country and the Armed Forces. This will undoubtfully augment the cooperation between our defence agencies. Your reform is a move forward, they go good and fast, and this is noticeable. Canada will continue its support to Ukraine," Minister of National Defence of Canada Mr. Harjit Singh Sajjan said.
He stressed that Canada and Ukraine have close cultural bonds, historically sustained for a long time, and expressed his condolences to the families of Ukrainian soldiers fallen during the ATO.
"I understand how difficult it is to wage war, study and conduct reforms at the same time. The unity of the country and willing for changes are a best respond to any aggressor," Minister of National Defence of Canada said.
