At the beginning of the visit, the head of state and his wife met with representatives of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars who live in Turkey, Censor.NET reports citing the president's press office.
Today, the president will have a meeting with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in a narrow circle and take part in the fifth session of the High Level Strategic Council between Ukraine and Turkey. Following the session, several Ukrainian-Turkish documents will be signed. A joint press conference is scheduled after the meeting of the presidents.
The agenda of the visit also provides for the meeting with Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly İsmail Kahraman.
On Thursday, March 10, the president will meet leading business representatives of Turkey and give an interview to the Turkish TV channel TRT. The head of state and his wife will also have a meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.
"Ukraine and Turkey are stepping up efforts to protect the Crimean Tatars in Crimea occupied by Russia. The president called on the Turkish parliament to recognize the deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944 genocide," Poroshenko's press secretary Sviatoslav Tseholko wrote on Twitter.
