Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov has held meeting with Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Turkey Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu in Ankara during a working visit to Turkey.

Censor.NET reports citing the NSDC press service.

The counterparts have discussed the cooperation between the two countries in the security and defense sector in view of the challenges Ukraine and Turkey are currently facing.

They also talked over coordination of law enforcement agencies and consolidation of efforts in the fight against international terrorism, organized crime, and illegal migration.

According to Turchynov, Ukraine and Turkey have a unique historical opportunity to combine political, diplomatic, military-technical and economic resources for the efficient and coordinated response to the destruction of the balance of forces in the Black Sea region. According to Ukraine's NSDC Secretary, the demilitarization and de-occupation of Crimea is an important step in this direction.

"The development of bilateral relations and cooperation between our states must take on a new significance," Turchynov said adding that the deepening of cooperation in military-technical sphere was a key task in the development of Ukrainian-Turkish strategic partnership.

The Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Turkey said that "our countries must play a leading role in creation of the efficient system of regional security". "The combination of the potentials of our countries, which, in turn, can provide a very efficient synergy, is critical for us," Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu said.
