In the Donbas since June 2015, allegedly at Bars special unit of the 'republican army of the Donetsk People's Republic.'
"Khomchenko's profile is very ordinary, just like those of many other Russians who came to Donbas to earn for a new iPhone. However, one interesting image has been revealed in his album, uploaded on May 15, 2015, showing our 'hero' against a BTR-82A and irregular buildings at the background. … The background features the roofs of the so-called module barracks which can be only found at the 7th Russian occupational military base in Gudauta (Abkhazia, Georgia)," the authors of the article note.
Judging from Khomchenko's photos, his Donbas trip started in June 2015 and ended in October. His Donbas presence is confirmed by several images showing him dressed up as a 'DPR' militant, an image with Donetsk geotag, where he poses with his 'comrade' Denis Makhnyuk (profile, albums, and contacts archives), as well as an image near Donetsk's Richard bar at 87 Artema Str. Judging from photos and contacts, Khomchenko was a member of the so-called Bars special unit of the 'republican guard' of the 'DPR', 'novorossia army.'
Here are archives of some Donbas photos of Khomchenko ( 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 ).
In addition to photographs, his profile also features a video uploaded on July 5, 2015, showing Donbas invaders' entertainment, where Khomchenko is being shot in his chest while wearing an armored jacket.
"This is not the first case of finding career officers from Russia within 'novorossia' illegal armed gangs. … Units of the 7th Russian military base were mentioned many times in connection with 'Rostov-Ukrainian trips' of Russian soldiers," the authors note.
