The NSDC Secretary visited the base together with Interior Minister Arsen Avakov on the occasion of completion of training of the KORD special force instructors that was conducted by experts from the United States.
According to Oleksandr Turchynov, the special force instructors, who have received their diplomas today, "would be able to achieve the ambitious task to prepare soldiers of the brand new KORD police task force, the competition to which has been launched by the Interior Ministry."
"The new police, which will safeguard the interests of citizens, must have mobile, skilled, and brand new special operations force," Oleksandr Turchynov said adding that the new special force detachments will be created by the example of the U.S. SWAT "and would be the main police strike force to fight against armed organized crime."
Besides, he noted that the young people recently demobilized from the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, "who had received experience not at the shooting ranges but in the actual combat conditions", would be given priority to serve in the new elite unit.
"Our task is to create fundamentally new law enforcement agencies, which should provide reliable protection for our citizens, which the Ukrainians will not be afraid of but respect, trust, and support in every possible way," the NSDC Secretary summed up.
