Blockade impact: price of vegetables, fruit, dairy products, and meat went up in Crimea. PHOTOS

Food prices in occupied Crimea have gone up after the beginning of the peninsula blockade several weeks ago. Salespersons assure this is a seasonal effect.

The food in Crimea has gradually become more expensive two weeks after the start of the civil blockade of the peninsula. The price for vegetables, fruit, dairy products and meat has gone up. The salespersons called the approach of cold weather the main reason for price upsurge. In some cases they complain on the lack of goods' supplies from mainland Ukraine, Censor.NET reports citing Krym.Realii.

The analysis of prices at the Privoz wholesale and retail market of agricultural products in Simferopol indicates that the prices for Crimean vegetables has increased over two weeks. According to sellers, fruit and vegetables delivered from mainland Ukraine have almost run out so the price for these goods has also risen.

Вdairy products have gone up on average by 10 percent. "The blockade has nothing to do with it. It has not affected the prices by any means," a saleswoman of dairy shop assured Krym.Realii. "All our goods are domestic and the upsurge is expected: it will be cold soon, the fodder price will go up, the price will increase even more before the New Year. Then the cows will calve and the prices will slump again."

According to the meat sellers, some of the deliveries were coming from mainland Ukraine in the past. Their lack impacted the price, which has also changed. However, sellers at the Central Market are willing to budge from their price for meat.

The food prices in supermarkets have also increased, while some fruit and vegetables were brought from mainland Ukraine according to the inscription on the price tags.
