However, some soldiers' relations have not been found. According to commissariat leadership, many families refuse to do DNA tests to identify the bodies, "hoping their missing loved ones are alive in captivity or hospitals."

The ceremony was attended by hundreds of citizens, local authorities, representatives of churches, volunteers and ATO soldiers.

As reported by a participant to the last year Ilovaisk events, Donbas battalion fighter Tymur Knysh, deaths of hundreds of Ukrainian fighters entrapped in the so-called "Ilovaisk encirclement" is "on Russian army's conscience" firing at point-blank range at Ukrainian troops trying to break out.

"Russian forces fired all kinds of weapons at us. Our military recorded this manmade hell on cameras and managed to save memory cards even in captivity. We did not just surrender in Ilovaisk. We captured Russian soldiers, paratroopers, we saw their military IDs - Ryazan, Ulyanovsk, and other Russian cities... We know like no other who is fighting against us and whose conscience is tarred with deaths of hundreds of our guys," Knysh said.
