"Huzyr must go to jail," - Avtomaidan and Anticorruption Action Center holding rally at Prosecutor General’s Office. PHOTOS

If Viktor Shokin does not dismiss Volodymyr Huzyr, it would mean that he covers his deputy and tries to destroy the case.

The statement reads: "Avtomaidan together with the Anticorruption Action Center have made Deputy Prosecutor General Volodymyr Huzyr to do porridge near the building of the Prosecutor General's Office. We demand the leadership of the PGO to release Huzyr from office. He has been accused of putting pressure on prosecutors investigating high-profile case of receiving bribes by two high-ranking prosecutors. If Viktor Shokin does not dismiss him, it would mean that he covers his deputy and tries to make the case burst wide open! Besides putting pressure on the investigation of the case of prosecutors-grafters, Volodymyr Huzyr pays much attention to the investigation of another high-profile case concerning BRSM Group's understatement of VAT by 1,200,000,000 hryvnia (about $50,000,000). Journalists have published the letter signed by Huzyr where he calls the actions of the Interior Ministry, which is investigating the case, the "interference in economic activity". The old personnel of the Prosecutor General's Office like Huzyr impede all investigations and block any attempts of the newcomers to fight corruption within the system. Therefore, either the leadership finally starts taking decisive actions to cleanse the prosecutor's office from all those "Huzyrs" or the next protest at the Prosecutor General's Office will be held with the demand of Victor Shokin's resignation!"

People's Front faction MP Andrii Levus also commented on the rally on his page on Facebook.

"Davit Sakvarelidze have come to the activists, who were picketing the PGO demanding the resignation of Huzyr. He said that the fight against corruption in the Prosecutor General's Office has just begun and he is not going to give up. The MPs from the People's Self-Defense political party has expressed their full support of his actions and has assured that they are Davit's allies in his fight. Davit Sakvarelidze is the best candidate for the post of the Prosecutor General. Shokin and Huzyr should be dismissed as soon as possible," Levus wrote.
