The offenders confiscated equipment from a company engaged in mining of sand in the Kyiv region having blocked its activities. The prosecutors extorted and received hryvnia equivalent of $150,000 through intermediaries to "help" to return the equipment.
The law enforcement officers found evidence of corrupt activities of prosecutors during searches in their workplaces and in private houses. In particular, the SBU officers seized $400 000 from the first deputy head of the Main Investigation Department, while a significant number of jewelry, 65 diamonds and Kalashnikov assault rifle were seized from the Deputy Prosecutor of the Kyiv region.
Both detainees were served notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 4 of the Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides single option sanction of imprisonment from eight to twelve years with confiscation of property.
