As commented by one of participants, Elena Zakharova, she as Russian citizen felt embarrassed for 'Russia bombing Ukraine": "I do not believe this is Putin who's waging the war, I believe it's Russia that is fighting with Ukraine."
Zakharova is certain that Russians' attitude towards the situation in Ukraine is not caused by TV propaganda, but by Russians' education in schools and universities.
Another activist Mikhail Lashkevich stressed that so much is being spent on the war with Ukraine, causing poor life quality of regular people. "These are consequences for all the Russians, despite their attitude towards the authorities. Everything got more expensive. Our slogan is 'Stop war with Ukraine!'."
Many passers-by negatively reacted towards the demonstration. A woman called the picket 'Bandera [Ukrainian nationalist leader - ed.] sabbath,' another man thanked President Putin for 'giving me a job." Some advice the picket participants to leave 'for their beloved America.'
People also discussed Putin's personal role in the Donbas war and Russian citizens participation in killing of Ukrainian people.
Many demonstrators were wearing Ukrainian embroidered blouses and badges reading "No to war!"
Their posters read 'V.V.Putin is inspirator and organizer of our defeats,' 'Reverence to heroes of Ukraine!,' 'Free Nadiya Savchenko," and had images of killed Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov.
