According to the newspaper, these images are at the disposal of the Norwegian Defense Ministry. They show that Russian Tu-22M has cruise missiles on board which can carry nuclear warheads. However, the Norwegian ministry did not specify whether the Russian planes are actually flying over Europe with nuclear weapons.
"We will not speculate on the subject whether certain Russian military aircraft had nuclear weapons on board. But of course we know that it is in service in Russia," the Norwegian Ministry of Defense said. The newspaper reminds that in recent years the relationship between NATO and Russia became more strained because of military provocations conducted by the Russian side. Russian fighters and bombers routinely violate European airspace. At that, the pilots shut down communication devices so that other aircraft cannot see them on radar. This creates emergency situations in the sky.
Recently a Russian Su-27 nearly collided with a U.S. aircraft over the Baltic Sea. It maneuvered at a distance of about 6 meters near an RC-135U of the U.S. Air Force, which posed a significant threat to the American crew.
NATO Air Force repeatedly intercepts Russian aircraft in the airspace over Baltic.
