Blogger egor reminds that the Russia first showed the new combat vehicles 2B26 122-mm 40-barrel rocket systems of volley fire Grad on the modified chassis of the KamAZ-5350 truck at a military parade on May 9, 2012 in Rostov-on-Don. The equipment was deployed in the units of the South Military District.
The information is in public domain on the bmpd blog under the auspices of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST Center) - Russian research organization dedicated to the study of the matters of the defense industry and military-technical cooperation, established in 1997.
"This 2B26s is an upgrade of the current vehicle of the 2B5 Grad with a the firing part switched from the chassis of Ural-375D to new chassis of KamAZ-5350. The modernization was conducted by Motovilikha Plants LLC which, according to known data, supplied 36 2B26 systems (modernized during 2011) to the Russian Defense Ministry in early 2012 (they are frequently mistaken by some media for 2B17M MLRS 9K51M Tornado-G)," the material reads.
First sample of the 2B26 was publicly shown in Perm on Sept. 23, 2011 during an exhibition dedicated to the 275th anniversary of Motovilikha Plants.
