 Poroshenko Nominated New Defense Minister to the Verkhovna Rada. PHOTOS

The President proposed the Parliament Stepan Poltorak as candidate for the Minister of Defense.

Presidential spokesman Sviatoslav Tseholko said this to Ukrainian Pravda, Censor.NET reports.

The corresponding statement appeared on Poroshenko's Twitter: "I have proposed the Parliament Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak for the seat of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine".

Earlier, the President dismissed Defense Minister Valerii Heletei.

Poltorak is currently the National Guard's Commander.

Poltorak was born February 11, 1965. He has been in the military service since august of 1983. In 1987 he graduated from the Ordzhonikidze Higher Military Command School of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In 1997 he graduated from the Military Academy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He served in the posts of commander of platoon, company, battalion chief of staff as well as commander of battalion, regiment and brigade. He changed the office of head of combat and special training of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine in March 2002 for the chair of the head of the Academy of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine.

The presidential decree of February 28, 2014 № 171 appointed him the Commander of the Internal troops of the Ministry of Interior.

He was appointed the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine April 15, 2014 by the Verkhovna Rada decree.
