 CEO of Kharkiv-based defense plant nabbed while trying to bribe military prosecutor. PHOTOS

Fedir Petrov, the director of Kharkiv Plant of Transport Machinery, a part of Ukroboronprom State Concern, was apprehended while trying to fashion 60,000 hryvnia (about $2,270) in bribe to a member of the military prosecutor's office.

Censor.NET reports citing a statement by the military prosecutor's office in charge of Ukraine’s southern region.

According to the report, the director of Kharkiv Plant of Transport Machinery was detained on March 25 by the members of the military prosecutor's office, operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine, and Ukroboronprom State Concern security officers as he tried to bribe a member of the military prosecutor's office of the Mykolaiv garrison.

It was found that the former director general of the Mykolaiv Shipyard SE currently occupying the post of the director of Kharkiv Plant of Transport Machinery offered the military prosecutor 60,000 hryvnia in bribe for the latter to cease criminal proceedings into embezzlement initiated against the official.

Commenting the statement on the official’s detention, plant’s chief accountant Liubov Shkarupeta said that Petrov had paid no salaries to the employees of the plant for 10 months.
