This was said by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov following the test, Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the NSDC press office.
According to the official, the Ukrainian missile was developed by the state enterprise Luch Design Bureau in cooperation with other state-owned and private enterprises of the Ukrainian defense industry. "The in-flight performance and operation of missile’s systems were verified during the successful test flight," he said.
Turchynov said that the NSDC, which coordinates domestic missile production program, tasked the defense industry to develop not only land- but also sea- and air- based cruise missiles. "The range of our cruise missiles and their warheads do not contradict the international agreements covering this type of weapons which Ukraine is a signatory to," he added.
"This is a very important event for Ukraine because the Ukrainian Armed Forces have no cruise missiles left in stock following the total disarmament of the Ukrainian army that took place after the Budapest Memorandum was signed," Turchynov said.
"Today's test have marked the beginning of the new stage of the missile program which provides for supplying our Armed Forces with powerful high-performance cruise missiles capable of hitting hostile targets with pinpoint accuracy," he said.
According to Turchynov such missile systems "are an important deterrent to the aggressor."
