As reported by Censor.NET citing the press service of the local prosecutor's office, the law enforcers recorded Mykolaiv airport Director Halaiko passing 700,000 hryvnia (about $25,000) to Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Chairman Savchenko as part of a 2.5 million hryvnia bribe for his labor contract extension. These funds were received by Halaiko as a kickback from a CEO of the contractor company involved in the runway construction worth 64 million hryvnia.
It is noted that the suspect was caught red-handed in the office of the Mykolaiv region governor at 10:25 p.m. on Dec. 28.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko also commented on the incident: "The kamikaze briber - Mykolaiv airport Director Halaiko - offered 700,000 hryvnia in bribe to Mykolaiv region governor for his labor contract extension. The corrupt official obtained the aforementioned funds as a kickback from Avtomahistral LLC CEO for signing the certificate of completion of the runway construction worth 64 million hryvnia.
“But the bribe giver was deceived in the Mykolaiv region governor who is one hell of an old dodger :)
“Halayko was detained in the act by the local police and prosecutors in the office of the chairman of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration chairman last night. He became the 9,424th corrupt official apprehended by the law enforcers in 2017."
