The detainee said that in late June, he arrived to Donetsk from Rostov-on-Don (Russia) to earn money. According to him, he was promised $1,000 per month for participating in the fighting on the side of the militants against the Ukrainian army.
"The Russian mercenary joined the terrorist organization operating in the Donetsk region. From the management of the so-called DPR he received firearms and cold steel, as well as explosive devices for armed attacks on the ATO checkpoints. Realizing the inevitability of punishment for his crimes, the mercenary tried to flee the city, planning to illegally cross the Ukrainian-Russian border," the press-service states.
The detainee had a grenade with a fuse, a bayonet, maps of the terrain of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, a permit signed by Russian citizen Igor Girkin (Shooter), Russian passport with Moscow residence permit. The detainee was informed of committing an offense under Part 1 of Art. 258-3 (the creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the agency noted.
