"Our progress as a united nation is impossible without political reconciliation. Elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has shown that all of the political forces in Ukraine advocate reform and modernization of the country, the achievement of high standards of living," said the President. According to him, this creates the conditions for a political consensus, and offers the prospect of a quick and successful reforms in Ukraine.
"The only point is, whether at the critical moment our politicians will be able to step over their own ambitions for the sake of our common cause - to build a rich, strong Ukraine," said the President. He expressed confidence that the Ukrainian politicians are united by democratic values, freedom of speech, thought, choice. "At the same time, note that the society expects not promises and slogans, not beating a loud but empty drums from politicians - Ukraine and its people need practical steps to improve the law, overcome corruption, punishment of legal arbitrariness," he said.
He stressed that there is much talk about democracy, the modern state, but without the rule of law and ensuring performance discipline, without strict adherence to procedures, contemporary staff - this dream is unattainable.
We are coming to the understanding of purposeful and consolidated solutions in the Constitution, and I am sure that such decisions will have profound significance for the whole of society. And because the constitutional reform is coming up from a narrow circle of politicians to a common project of the Ukrainian community - in this I see the value of the Constitutional Assembly. I appeal to everyone - postpone your political disputes, do not look for conflicts, and focus your efforts on the search for a common vision of the prospects for Ukraine - and this is the reform and renewal of Ukraine," he said.
