Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Hroisman said at a Cabinet meeting, Censor.NET reports.
"We all remember that until recently the country has been dependent on the Russian energy and we also remember that it was used as a leverage against Ukraine. Our country has not been importing Russian gas for 720 days now," he stressed.
Hroisman thanked foreign partners for their prompt assistance to Ukraine in a very difficult year 2014 and for the ongoing support. "That's true that we import gas from abroad. But our aim is not to purchase, but to become an energy independent state and eventually start exporting energy," the PM said.
The official says the implementation of energy efficiency programs is on the table while the government is committed to increase funding of these projects and ensure a fair gas price formula.
