 Ukraine expels Belarusian diplomat in proportional retaliation act, - Foreign Ministry spokesperson

The expelled Belarusian diplomat was the first secretary of the Belarusian embassy in Ukraine. He has already left the country.

As reported by Censor.NET, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mariana Betsa said on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.

"This act is linked with the case of Pavlo Sharoiko. Belarus expelled a member of our embassy. Based on the principle of reciprocity, Ukraine expelled the Belarusian diplomat. We are talking about the first secretary of the Belarusian embassy in Ukraine. He has already left the country," she said.

Betza also explained why this particular diplomat was expelled from Ukraine.

"As a rule, the diplomatic practice envisages that more or less equal positions are retained while expelling diplomats," she added.

Earlier, Ukraine's National Public Broadcasting Company Chief Zurab Alasania reported Sharoiko's detention on Nov. 17.
